Impeach President Donald J. Trump?
This resolution aims to impeach the President of the United States, Donald John Trump, for high crimes and misdemeanors, stating that the president has abused his executive power and will continue undermining U.S. democracy if left in office. There are two articles that demonstrate why President Trump should be impeached: 1) abusing presidential power by calling for the execution of members of Congress, through social media posts that threaten the safety of these lawmakers, and 2) abusing presidential power by attempting to intimidate federal judges, which violates the separation of powers and the judiciary’s independence.

• "Donald Trump’s out-of-control behavior continues to put the health, safety and economic well-being of the American people at risk. At the same time, House Republicans have zero interest in holding this corrupt administration accountable. When Republicans gained full control of government this year, they promised to lower the cost of living on day one. Costs haven’t gone down, they’ve gone up. Life in America is more expensive and Republicans have not done a damn thing to address the affordability crisis… Impeachment is a sacred constitutional vehicle designed to hold a corrupt executive accountable for abuse of power, breaking the law and violating the public trust. The effort traditionally requires a comprehensive investigative process, the collection and review of thousands of documents, an exacting scrutiny of the facts, the examination of dozens of key witnesses, Congressional hearings, sustained public organizing and the marshaling of the forces of democracy to build a broad national consensus. None of that serious work has been done, with the Republican majority focused solely on rubber stamping Donald Trump’s extreme agenda. Accordingly, we will be voting “present” on today’s motion to table the impeachment resolution as we continue our fight to make life more affordable for everyday Americans." • "Impeachment is a critical and essential means of political and constitutional self-defense that the Framers gave to the people to be used when a lawless president or other high official commits dangerous high crimes and misdemeanors against the people. We are in a period when multiple members of the Trump Administration are engaged in lawless actions that potentially constitute high crimes and misdemeanors. Members who are outraged by these offenses have begun to file impeachment resolutions on particular actions and events that trouble them the most. There is certainly no shortage of such offenses against the Constitution and the people taking place. In the face of the Administration’s lawlessness, the proper thing to do at this point is not to vote to table this impeachment Resolution but to refer it to the Judiciary Committee. It is the Judiciary Committee which has always conducted hearings on potential high crimes and misdemeanors and prepared complete investigative reports to the House on successful impeachment resolutions in the past… Thus, I will be voting against tabling the Green Resolution but instead strongly support referring it to the Judiciary Committee, which should be conducting intensive hearings and investigative reports on the implications of all of the unconstitutional and potentially impeachable actions of the President and his Administration." • "The American people are counting on us to address the challenges created by this Administration. This President and this Republican Congress promised to make life in America more affordable — yet they have failed miserably. It is clear that President Trump’s disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law requires that Congress reclaim its oversight duties over his administration and exercise its authority in the way our founders intended. Impeachment calls for transparency, and a presentation of facts and evidence to the public, in order to hold any President to account for high crimes and misdemeanors. Under the current House MAGA leadership, those conditions are simply not available. In order to hold any President to account for high crimes and misdemeanors, impeachment requires a transparent process with hearings, testimonies and investigations with the support of the majorities in the House and Senate — all conditions that are simply not available under the current Republican leadership. Because there is no viable process for impeachment at this time, I voted present on today’s motion to table the resolution. I want to be clear: this vote does not excuse the illegal actions of this president and his administration, Congress has other avenues for accountability that we can and should be utilizing." • "Our Members of Congress swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution from threats foreign and domestic. We applaud the 140 Members of Congress who abided by this oath and voted yesterday to advance articles of impeachment introduced by Congressman Al Green of Texas. They understand, unlike many of their colleagues, that an oath loses its meaning when heeded capriciously or at the whims of personal or political convenience… As announced earlier this year, more than one million people nationwide have signed petitions urging Congress to impeach and remove Trump from office. Polling shows the majority of Americans agree. Everyday Americans understand what House leadership has chosen to ignore: impeachment is not a partisan act. It’s a Constitutional duty. The Framers were clear. Through Section Four of Article II, the Impeachment Clause, they equipped Members of Congress with the explicit authority to hold a rogue president to account if that president should prove a tyrannical threat to separation of powers, to the Constitutionally protected freedom of speech and assembly, or other pillars that uphold our republic. The moment the Framers warned us about has arrived. There is no legitimate excuse for delay. Congress must immediately impeach and remove Trump." Source: Free Speech For People
• "During his first term in office, I voted twice to impeach Donald Trump for his abuse of his office and his incitement of the deadly insurrection on January 6, 2021. House Republicans have shown little interest in conducting congressional oversight over Donald Trump and his Administrations during his time in office. During his second term, Donald Trump has engaged in corrupt abuses of the Emoluments Clause, threatened violence against Members of Congress, and committed apparent war crimes in the Caribbean amongst other out-of-control, illegal behavior that demeans and abuses the Office of the President. It is long overdue for the House Judiciary Committee to hold hearings and investigate all potential high crimes and misdemeanors committed by President Trump." Source: Rep. Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (Democrat, Virginia, District 3)
• "The president has not upheld his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. I am concerned by his continued efforts to undermine and upend our institutions and democracy. I strongly support referring this matter to the Judiciary Committee, which has the responsibility to conduct thorough hearings and investigations into the president’s unlawful actions. I cannot continue to proceed like everything is fine, when it is so clearly not. I remain focused on doing what I can to minimize the harm this administration is doing by working on the day-to-day issues that matter and the people in my district are feeling, including health care and affordability. I am concerned about all these issues and am committed to listening to and serving the people I represent." Source: Rep. Debbie Dingell (Democrat, Michigan, District 6)
