Remove U.S. Armed Forces from the Islamic Republic of Iran?
This joint resolution directs President Trump, under section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution to withdraw U.S. armed forces from any unauthorized hostilities in Iran. It highlights that, under the Constitution, Congress must explicitly authorize any military action and reaffirms that it does not seek to disrupt self-defense measures nor intelligence efforts. Sponsor: Rep. Thomas Massie (Republican, Kentucky, District 4)

• "The military operations in Iran should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says. The President gave Iran’s leader every opportunity to make a deal, but Iran refused to commit to a nuclear disarmament agreement. President Trump has been consistent and clear that a nuclear-armed Iran will not be tolerated. That posture has now been enforced with strength, precision, and clarity. The President’s decisive action prevents the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants ‘Death to America,’ from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet. This is America First policy in action. God bless our brave men and women in uniform — the most lethal fighting force on the planet — as we pray for their safe return home. May God bless America." • "Well, ultimately when we do these things it’s because we care about the safety and security of our troops, of our airmen, and all those who are supporting these missions. So you know obviously the element of surprise is important in military tactics. In this particular – now, I don’t think the Iranians or anyone should have been under any mystery. The President said very clearly we have 60 days to make progress on a deal; and if we don’t, I’m going to deal with it differently. But in terms of what people call deception and surprise and things of this nature, the core of that is not the – the mission was going to be successful no matter what. The core of that was protecting our service men and women who were in harm’s way in conducting that mission. That’s the most important part. And they went in, they did what they needed to do with precision and skill that no other military in the world can do, and they left. And they were well outside of Iranian airspace before the regime even realized what had happened." Source: Secretary of State Marco Rubio (Republican, Florida)
• "Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be. Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but he doesn’t know how to get there — he doesn’t have a clue! MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague! MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one. He’s a simple minded ‘grandstander’ who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ at every chance they get. Iran has killed and maimed thousands of Americans." Source: President Donald Trump (Republican)

• "President Trump must provide the American people and Congress clear answers on the actions taken tonight and their implications for the safety of Americans. No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy. Confronting Iran’s ruthless campaign of terror, nuclear ambitions, and regional aggression demands strength, resolve, and strategic clarity. The danger of wider, longer, and more devastating war has now dramatically increased. We must enforce the War Powers Act, and I’m urging Leader Thune to put it on the Senate floor immediately. I am voting for it and implore all Senators on both sides of the aisle to vote for it." Source: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (Democrat, New York)
• "No president should be able to bypass Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war. The American people do not want to be dragged into another disastrous conflict in the Middle East. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan War Powers Resolution with Rep. Massie to reassert that any military action against Iran must be authorized by Congress." Source: Rep. Ro Khanna (Democrat, California, District 17)
• "The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment." Source: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Democrat, New York, District 14)
• "I write first and foremost as a Patriot who loves our country. I proudly served two combat tours in America’s longest war. But 20 years, trillions of dollars, and countless deaths later, we still haven’t gotten accountability from the politicians who started this mess. I refuse to make those same mistakes again. I am under no illusions about the nature of the Iranian regime and its proxies – they are evil, and I continue to stand strongly for active and robust support for the defense of the state of Israel and its people. But American-led, offensive military operations against Iran – including Saturday night’s preventive air strikes – are different. I am supporting a War Powers Resolution because it is the clear and sacred Constitutional duty for Congress, not the President, to declare war. As our Founders intended, this will ensure we have a full and honest conversation with the American people about what American military action against Iran would mean. We stand ready and willing to execute our Constitutional responsibility, to protect our troops, and to keep the American people safe." Source: Rep. Pat Ryan (Democrat, New York, District 18)
