Opponents say

"There are already many federal programs that give taxpayer-subsidized mortgages to veterans and other Americans. If Congress decides to extend these taxpayer benefits to teachers and first responders, should it also give them to other medical professionals like nurses or nursing home aides? What about preschool teachers, prosecutors or public defenders, or other law enforcement officials? Should taxpayers subsidize mortgages for all public sector employees, or are some more worthy than others? The bill sponsors need to explain to the taxpayers where the line should be drawn." Proponents say

"First responders and teachers work tirelessly to serve our communities, and they have faced incredibly difficult circumstances over the past two years,” Sen. Rubio said. “As housing prices continue to skyrocket, our bill would help ensure that teachers and first responders can own a home in the communities they dutifully serve." Source: Senator Marco Rubio (Republican, Florida)

"With this bipartisan bill, I’m working across the aisle to support Georgia’s teachers, first responders, and police officers by making home ownership more affordable for public servants who teach our kids and protect our families" Source: Senator Jon Ossoff (Democrat, Georgia)
