Opponents say

•    "Time and time again, we’re hearing that the answer to the inflation crisis is more government control, more government spending and less freedom. The disastrous consequences price controls will have is not hypothetical – we’ve seen them before. These are the policies that are used in Soviet Russia, Venezuela, North Korea, and other dictatorships. They lead to massive shortages in goods." Source: Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Republican, Washington, District 5)

Proponents say

•    "At a time when people in the 8th district and across the country are feeling the pinch at the gas pump, Congress needs to be doing all it can to bring down costs for American families. What’s infuriating is that this is happening at the same time that gas and oil companies are making record profits…Gas and oil companies should be held accountable and should not be making the situation worse by gouging Americans at the pump."
