Opponents say
• The solution to the current opioid crisis is to encourage public health approaches, drug abuse education, and comprehensive treatment programs. This bill seeks to revive the disastrous “War on Drugs” by imposing harsh mandatory minimum sentences and giving the Attorney General unrestricted discretion to schedule drugs and set criminal penalties.
Proponents say
• This bill will help law enforcement officials keep drugs off the street by making it easier to expand the list of illegal substances, including adding synthetic analogue(s) to Schedule A list, making it temporarily illegal.
