Should FEMA improve how it collects information?
This bill mandates that FEMA develop a plan to streamline the information collection process for disaster assistance applicants and grantees, reducing redundancy and minimizing time burdens. It also requires FEMA to create a strategy for regular data collection and reporting on federal disaster assistance. Within two years, FEMA must convene a working group to identify areas of duplication in preliminary damage assessments and explore emerging technologies, such as drones, to improve efficiency. The findings and recommendations, along with a comprehensive report on the plans, must be submitted to Congress, made public, and posted on FEMA’s website.
