Opponents say

 •     "The Energy and Water Development Bill pushed out of committee by House Republicans slashes funding designed to cut household energy costs, build US leadership in clean technologies, spur job growth, and secure our energy supply chains. House conservatives are betting against American workers and energy industries in their appropriations bills. And, instead of operating in good faith and in the best interest of the American people, their growing list of unreasonable demands is raising the likelihood of a disruptive government shutdown." Proponents say

•      "The Committee understands that to ensure that our energy system does not become reliant on China, due to the lack of domestic sources of critical minerals. It is necessary for the committee to fund “... the full spectrum of production technologies of critical minerals, including extraction, separation, processing, manufacturing, and recycling. This approach makes full use of the nation’s vast domestic resources and enhances our technological capabilities while securing the full supply chain of critical materials." •     "Our energy and water infrastructure need significant investment to meet the needs of Americans throughout the country, particularly in the West. The bill passed by the Appropriations Committee today will help modernize our water systems to improve and increase dam safety, water storage, water recycling, desalination projects, and more. And as we experience new heat records, our bill also makes key investments in expanding clean energy and fighting against climate change. " Source: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Democrat, California)
