Opponents say

•  "There is no ban on gas stoves. This argument is a red herring. The DOE (Department of Energy) does not have the statutory authority to ban gas stoves, and has not made any such proposal. If the proposed standard is finalized, consumers would continue to have a wide variety of gas stove models from which to choose. The proposed efficiency standard for gas stoves would benefit consumers. About half the gas stoves sold today already meet the proposed standard. Others, primarily the luxury, commercial-style models would require modest improvements. Resulting in about a 30 percent reduction in energy amount for the same amount of cooking. That’s a good thing. That will both save consumers money and improve public health outcomes. These modest energy efficiency improvements and others for electric cooking products too, will add up to 1.7 billion in savings for consumers over time." Source: Andrew Delaski (Executive Director, Appliance Standards Awareness Project)

•  "I want to apologize on behalf of the democratic party. That we have decided to put kids’ safety in their neighborhoods, from getting gunned down in movie theatre, or grocery stores, or schools, churches, or synagogues. We as democrats have clearly lost our way, that we are not focused on appliances. And so, we’re finally seeing our friends across the aisle stand up for parents across the country as they tuck their kid in at night, as they dress them for school in the morning, as they are worried  that they may not come home. My friends across the aisle are telling those parents, you can breathe a sigh of relief. That the ‘Grand Appliance Party’ is going to make sure your gas stove goes nowhere." Source: Rep. Jared Moskowitz (Democrat, Florida, District 23)

Proponents say

•   "Inflation is hurting everyone. We have a crisis at our Southern Border. North Dakotans are worried about being able to provide for their families. What is the Biden administration focused on? Controlling the kind of stove Americans use. This is further incompetence from an administration that seems more interested in dictating every aspect of our lives than solving real problems. Our bills make it clear that Americans should decide if a gas stove is right for their families, not the federal government.Source: Rep. Kelly Armstrong (Republican, North Dakota, District At Large)

•  "President Biden and the radical left want to use the federal government’s power to dictate what kind of car you can drive, how you can heat your home and business, and now how you’re allowed to cook food for your family. Forcing people to switch to expensive alternatives will only further increase costs on hardworking families and disproportionately harm the most vulnerable communities. Natural gas is a safe, reliable and affordable energy source for millions of Americans. I commend the efforts of my colleagues Reps. Armstrong and Lesko to end President Biden’s efforts to ban gas stoves in American households and ensure people have access to affordable and reliable energy.Source: Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Republican, Washington, District 5)
