Opponents say

•     In a letter to President Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Senate Democrats urged him to protect abortion rights by "Using federal property and resources to increase access to abortion. The Department of Justice and all relevant agencies could analyze the types of reproductive health services that could be provided on federal property, especially in states where such services are limited by state law or regulation." Source: Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat, Massachusetts)

•     "While the Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funds from being used to pay for abortions, it does not preclude the federal government from leasing space on federal land to private abortion providers. It shouldn't be [a] Hyde Amendment problem because the federal government isn't paying for abortions, it actually would be the provider paying the federal government." Proponents say

•     "The Biden administration will stop at nothing to force their radical abortion agenda nationwide. Attempting to bypass states that have made the commitment to treat every human life with respect and dignity is shameless and unacceptable, and we must ensure this option is not on the table. States must be free to stand up for the unborn." Source: Senator James Risch (Republican, Idaho)

•     "The point of the Dobbs decision is to allow states to set policies regarding ending a pregnancy. The pro-abortion forces are in a desperate scramble to ensure abortion on demand until birth. The plan to use federal lands and property for abortions is just one effort to circumvent the Supreme Court decision and the spirit of the Hyde Amendment. As such, Senator Rubio’s bill to stop the federal government from promoting abortions using federal holdings has my full support." Source: Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (Republican, Mississippi)
