Opponents say

•    Regarding Tesla paying for its workers to travel for abortions, Texas Representative Briscoe Cain tweeted, "Dear Elon Musk, If Tesla is paying for employees to travel outside of Texas to get abortions, please put an end to the practice. Texas would be happy to have Tesla’s headquarters located here, but not if Tesla is helping kill babies and hurt women." Source: Rep. Briscoe Cain (Republican, Texas, District 128)

•    "In Texas, 14 GOP lawmakers, led by state Rep. Briscoe Cain, have said they intend to introduce laws which will penalize companies that facilitate out-of-state abortions...The state of Texas will take swift and decisive action if you do not immediately rescind your recently announced policy to pay for the travel expenses of women who abort their unborn children," the letter signed by the Republican state representatives states, reported The Texas Tribune.” Source: Newsweek

Proponents say

•    "Lawmakers in several states, including my home state of Texas, are now threatening to interfere with the constitutional right of Americans to travel freely and voluntarily within the United States for the purpose of obtaining abortion care. These efforts violate the fundamental rights guaranteed to all citizens.  These efforts to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights must be stopped, and Congress has the power and the responsibility to do so." Source: Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (Democrat, Texas, District 7)

•    "As emboldened right-wing forces try to make it a crime for women to obtain out-of-state health care services, and as the Supreme Court discards long-settled constitutional principles, Congress must protect the constitutional right to travel,” said Congressman Jamie Raskin.  “This important legislation defends the time-honored right to travel across state lines, including for the purpose of obtaining an abortion. We will not allow extremists to dismantle this basic freedom.” Rep. Jamie Raskin (Democrat , Maryland, District 8)
